A delegation of CASS led by Director Mo Jihong visits Nepal-China Friendship Forum in Kathmandu

A delegation of the Institute of Law of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) visited the Nepal-China Friendship Forum, a member of the Global Think Tank Network for Democracy Studies, in Kathmandu, Nepal on November 24, 2023. The three-member delegation was led by Professor Mo Jihong, the director of the CASS Institute of Law and the secretary general of the Global Think Tank Network for Democracy Studies. The other two members of the delegation were Professor Zhi Zhenfeng, the editor-in-chief of the website International Network for Democracy Theory Studies and a research fellow at CASS Institute of Law, and Professor Xu Chi, an research fellow at CASS Institute of Law.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Kalyan Raj Sharma, the chairman of the Nepal-China Friendship Forum and a visiting professor at Kathmandu University. At the meeting, Professor Sharma said that the Nepal-China Friendship Forum aims to build a platform for people-to-people exchanges between China and Nepal and help the Nepalese people know and understand the real China. China has made great efforts in developing the whole-process people's democracy, upholding multilateralism, and getting rid of poverty. The Nepal-China Friendship Forum will continue to make efforts to understand and introduce to the Nepalese people China's practice of democracy and serve as a messenger of cultural exchanges between China and Nepal.

Professor Mo Jihong pointed out that CASS and the Nepal-China Friendship Forum, both members of the Global Think Tank Network for Democracy Studies, have a close relationship of cooperation and have carried out many academic exchanges between them, which have played a positive role in promoting democracy, a common value of all mankind. He expressed the hope that, in the future, the two organizations will further strengthen communication and cooperation between them, seize the new opportunities for theoretical studies on democracy brought by global digitalization and networking, jointly build the website International Network for Democracy Theory Studies, promote international dialogue in democracy, and strengthen exchanges and mutual learning in the practice of and theoretical research on democracy.

Professor Sharma also briefed Professor Mo and other members of the delegation on the academic achievements of the Nepal-China Friendship Forum and its organization of the "South Asia Belt and Road Forum". Both the host and the guests agreed that the cooperation between the two organizations is based on a solid foundation and that there is broad space for cooperation between China and South Asian countries in the development of the Global Think Tank Network for Democracy Studies in the future. They also held consultations on the topics and methods of their cooperation at the next stage.
